National Louis University invites students, faculty, and staff to a book club discussion of "Worse Than a Lie", the powerful debut legal thriller by renowned civil rights attorney Ben Crump. Crump—often referred to as “Black America’s Attorney General”—has spent decades advocating for justice in some of the nation’s most pivotal civil rights cases. He is recognized among TIME100’s Most Influential People and Ebony Magazine’s Power 100 for his impactful work in social justice and legal advocacy.
In his first novel, Ben Crump channels his real-world experience into a gripping story centered on truth, justice, and the consequences of systemic injustice. Worse Than a Lie follows the case of Hollis Montrose, a Black former police officer who survives a brutal shooting during a traffic stop—only to have the narrative manipulated against him. The novel explores the fight to uncover truth amid institutional power, making it both timely and deeply resonant.
